GLSCL Opening Night Recap - 6/5/26
Mariners surprise Joes, Scouts bounce back walking off Copperheads, Locos power past Sluggers while Clippers and Monarchs are postponed.
GRAND LAKE MARINERS 9 HAMILTON JOES 2 - FINAL
FOUNDATION FIELD - The Grand Lake Mariners spoiled the opening night vibe in front of a huge crowd at Foundation Field with a convincing 9-2 win over the Hamilton Joes.
The Mariners scored three times in the fifth taking the lead and putting the game out of reach with five more in the sixth inning.
The game started as a pitcher's duel when the Joes broke the seal in the fourth inning. Parker Falkenstein (Wright State) was issued a bases loaded walk forcing home Ryder Kirtley (Miami University) from third base.
Hamilton starter Dean Brown (Chattahoochee Valley), a GLSCL all-star in 2025, held Grand Lake at bay until getting into trouble in the fifth. Brown struck out five batters through the first four innings before starting to face the Mariners lineup for the third time.
Matt Aldridge (Pitt Community College) knocked in the tying run with an RBI-single scoring Landon Tiesing (Kent State). Grand Lake took the lead on a two-run pinch hit double by Matthew Hutchinson (Yale University).
The Mariners put the game out of reach when Aldridge struck again in the sixth. Aldridge sent a ball back up the middle off Joes reliever Joshua Isaacs (Mount St. Joseph). Two runs crossed the plate as a result with Connor Martin (University of Sciences & Arts) and Holden Murcer (Gardner Webb) each crossing the pay station.

Parker Vaughn (Langsing CC) hit a bases loaded double driving in all three base runners finishing off the onslaught.
Five Grand Lake pitchers combined to hold Hamilton to two runs on seven hits despite issuing 11 walks. Alex Dues (Marietta College) struck out three of the five batters he faced in one inning of work earning the victory.
Kirtley was a bright spot for the Joes contributing three hits and scoring both of the team's runs.
The two teams will head north as the Mariners will host its home opener versus the Joes at Montgomery Field with first pitch schedule for 6:35pm.
XENIA SCOUTS 7 SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 6 - FINAL
BROWNE STADIUM - The Xenia Scouts walked it off the in the bottom of the ninth inning winning 7-6 at home on opening night over the Southern Ohio Copperheads.
The Scouts overcame surrendering single runs scored by Southern Ohio in the eight and ninth innings. Facing a 6-5 deficit going into the bottom of the ninth the Scouts went to work sending its fans home happy.
Xenia loaded the bases on back-to-back singles leading off the inning. Mason Golabek (St. Clair CC) laid down a bunt to advance the runners but was safe at first on a throwing error by the pitcher loading the bases with no outs.
With one out, Steven Schneider (Maryville University) chopped a ball high in front of the Copperheads shortstop Zach Reeder (Siena Heights). Reeder laid back to play the hop and had trouble with the in between bounce with the ball going over his head getting past him into short left field.
The play allowed two runs to score on the play as Ethan Papalios (North Alabama) came home from third and Bo Solley (Harding College) crossed the plate with the game winner all the way from second base.
Schneider was credited with an RBI single, one of three hits on the night, and Reeder was charged with an error allowing Solley to score the winning run.
The Copperheads overcome a 5-4 deficit when they tied the game 5-5 in the top of the eighth inning. Cal Leighton (Bradley University) tripled leading off the inning and scored on a double off the bat of Easton Nuzum (Muskingum University).
Southern Ohio took the lead in the ninth inning 6-5 when Scouts pitchers walked the bases loaded. Matt Bright (Southwest Tennessee CC) hit a soft line drive into right field driving in Reeder with the go ahead run.
However, with nobody out and the bases still loaded the Copperheads could not push any insurance runs across the plate. Xenia reliever Ryan Redding (Depauw University) regrouped and retired the side with two strikeouts not allowing any further damage.
The Copperheads look to bounce back as the two teams head east to Athens for Southern Ohio's home opener. First pitch on Saturday is scheduled for 7:05pm at Bob Wren Stadium.
LIMA LOCOS 10 FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 6 - FINAL
MARATHON DIAMONDS - The Lima Locos began defense of its GLSCL championship with a 10-6 victory on the road over the Flag City Sluggers.
Avery Wilson (Kennesaw State) provided the big blow for the Locos smacking a grand slam homer over the left field fence in the seventh inning.
Michael Strickland (Mercer University) threw three innings out for the bullpen earning the victory for the Locos. Strickland struck out three batters giving up just one run on one hit and two walks.
Grant McGuire (Winthrop University), a returning all-star for the Locos, got off to a good start for the season. McGuire went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and a run scored.
Parker Datsou (Mercer University) and Jimmy Dionne (Purdue University) also provided two hits each in the 11-hit Lima offensive attack.
Mickey Anderson (Montgomery College) was 2-for-5 for the Sluggers with a double and three RBI. Miles Mitchell (University of New Orleans) and Tim Leark (Maryville University) also provided two hits for Flag City.
On Saturday the two teams will officially christen the new turf infield at Simmons Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05pm
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS vs. MICHIGAN MONARCHS - Postponed
MARSH FIELD - The Muskegon Clippers versus Michigan Monarchs season opener at Marsh Field was postponed early in the afternoon. It had already rained in the area overnight and with a 90 percent forecasted chance of rain in the area the decision was made early on to try it again the next day.
The Opening Night festivities will now be a double header in Muskegon beginning at 5:05pm on Saturday evening.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
