XENIA SCOUTS 4 FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 2 - FINAL
BROWNE STADIUM - The Xenia Scouts snapped a five-game losing streak with a 4-2 victory on Grady's Field at Browne Stadium against the visiting Flag City Sluggers.
The Scouts benefitted greatly from a strong pitching performance out of starting pitcher Trey Tipton (Cedarville University). Tipton pitched seven strong innings striking out a season high eight batters. He only gave up two runs on four hits walking just two batters.

After Tipton retired the side in the order in the top of the first inning, the Scouts gave Tipton a four-lead to work with in the bottom of the inning.
Cole Rohlmeier (The Masters University) doubled to left field driving home Bo Solley (Harding University). Ethan Moore (North Alabama) followed with an RBI-single bringing home Gabe Mathison (University of Akron). The Scouts then scored two runs on the same wild pitch. Rohlmeier broke for home on a wild pitch that made it all the way to the backstop. The throw from the Sluggers catcher to the pitcher in an attempt to throw out Rohlmeier was errant allowing Moore to also score on the play.
That's all Tipton needed but the Sluggers did get to him in the fourth inning. Brett Reed (Madonna University) scored on a double off the bat of Miles Mitchell (New Orleans commit). Drew Tajblik (University of Toledo) followed with an RBI-single allowing Trent Smith (Owens CC) to easily score from third base.
Sluggers starting pitcher Parker Faris (Adrian College) pitched well after getting off to a shaky start in the early going. After giving up the four in the first inning, Faris allowed the first two batters to reach in the second inning on back-to-back singles. Mathison then lined out back to Faris who able to quickly throw to Mitchell at second base for a force out and Mitchell throwing to first for a triple play.
The last triple play in the GLSCL happened ten years to the day on June 25, 2016 when the Cincinnati Steam pulled it off on the Lake Erie Monarchs at Max McLeary Field in Cincinnati.
Luke Scott (The Masters University) came out of the Scouts bullpen sealing the deal pitching with two perfect innings. Scott, who earned his first save of the season, set down all six batters he faced including a game ending strikeout.
In spite of the loss, Flag City (11-7) is still one of the hottest teams in the league with an 8-2 record in its last 10 games. The Sluggers missed out on opportunity to gain ground on the North Division leading Lima Locos (13-3) who were idle on Thursday.
Despite its recent struggles, the Scouts (8-10) are in second place in the South Division standings only trailing the Grand Lake Mariners.
The Scouts begin a weekend series on Friday night against the Hamilton Joes at Foundation Field. The Sluggers return home hosting the Michigan Monarchs at Marathon Diamonds.
HAMILTON JOES @ LIMA LOCOS - POSTPONED
SIMMONS FIELD - The Lima Locos versus Hamilton Joes game was postponed before the game began due to concerns over field conditions at Simmons Field.
Rain from a pregame soaker was observed perfectly by the newly installed turf infield, however the same couldn't be said about the natural surface in the outfield and warning track areas.
The game will be made as part of double header on July 8. This presents an interested issue as the two team will now be playing back-to-back double headers in July.
The July 7 twin bill takes place at Simmons Field due a recent special request by the Locos that was granted by the league office. Thursday's rain out is being made on July 8 and played in Hamilton at Foundation Field.
The Locos now embark on a weekend road trip playing a three-game series at Marsh Field against the Muskegon Clippers. The Joes will host the Xenia Scouts on Friday at Foundation Field.
