GLSCL Recap - June 30
The Locos and Monarchs game is suspended during sudden death. The Mariners come from behind winning its seventh in a row. The Joes outlast the Copperheads and the Clippers blow out the Sluggers.
LIMA LOCOS 10 MICHIGAN MONARCHS 10 - SUSPENDED/11th Inning
SOUTHGATE HIGH SCHOOL - The Lima Locos and the Monarchs battled to a 10-10 tie and went into the sudden death 11th inning before the game was suspended due to darkness. The Monarchs went on offense after the coin flip and had the bases loaded with one out before the games was halted.
The Monarchs had to move the game to Southgate High School due to a scheduling conflict with its home field at Hillsdale College. The game was moved to a high school facility that does not have lights. Despite a 5:35pm first pitch there was not enough daylight to complete the task of finishing the game.
The game will be finished on Wednesday at Simmons Field where it will be picked up at the point of interruption. That will take place at 7:05pm. Shortly after the conclusion of the suspended game, the regularly scheduled game will be played. The regularly scheduled game will be a nine-inning game.
GRAND LAKE MARINERS 8 XENIA SCOUTS 7 - FINAL
GRADY'S FIELD - The Grand Lake Mariners came from behind taking down the Xenia Scouts 8-7 on Grady's Field at Browne Stadium.
The Scouts led 4-0 in the fifth inning when the Mariners made its comeback ultimately winning the game.
Grand Lake (16-5) now have the most number of wins in the GLSCL earning its 16th victory of the season. The victory extends its current winning streak to seven straight games.
The Scouts (8-14) on the other hand are struggling dropping its third straight game and have lost eight of its last nine games.
The series continues on Wednesday at Montgomery Field in Celina with first pitch scheduled for 6:35pm.
HAMILTON JOES 16 SOUTHERN OHIO COPPERHEADS 9 - FINAL
BOB WREN STADIUM - The Hamilton Joes outlasted the Southern Ohio Copperheads taking the first game of its series 16-9 at Bob Wren Stadium.
The Joes (10-9) overcame on early 3-2 deficit before winning the marathon of a game that lasted four hours and 15 minutes. Both pitching staffs struggled with command combining for 23 walks, six hit batters and three wild pitches
Copperheads starter Jacob Napier (Rio Grande transfer portal) kept his team in it during the early going pitching the first four innings. Despite taking the loss, Napier struck out five batters scattering three hits but walks were his ultimate downfall. He surrendered five free passes giving up four runs, three of which were earned.
Joes starter Samuel Rufenacht (University of Toledo) went four innings as well giving up three runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
In the fourth inning, Hamilton's Noah Wagster (Earlham College) hit a sacrifice fly driving in Brady Bowen (University of Akron) breaking up a 3-3 tie.
The Joes then sent nine men to the plate in fifth inning scoring five runs on just two hits blowing the game wide open. Wagster's two-run double was the big blow driving home both Gavin Brewer (University of Cincinnati) and A.J. Beggs (Southwest Illinois College).
Wagster finished the night going 2-for-4 with the double and the sacrifice fly already mentioned plus three RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Bowen also reached base four times scoring four runs and stealing three bases going 2-for-3 at the plate.
With two hits apiece, Cole Davis (Adrain College) and Konner Pittman led the Copperheads (4-18) offensive attack. Davis was 2-for-2 with a sacrifice fly while Pittman went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
The series moves to Hamilton for the middle game where the first pitch at Foundation Field is schedule for 7:05pm.
MUSKEGON CLIPPERS 10 FLAG CITY SLUGGERS 4 - FINAL
MARSH FIELD - The Muskegon Clippers led early and often beating down the previously red hot Flag City Sluggers by a score of 10-4 at Marsh Field.
The Sluggers (14-8) went into the game winners of 11 out of its previous 13 games but stumbled coming out of the gate. The Clippers (11-11) scored four times in the first inning and twice more in the second taking a 6-0 advantage.
Jonnie Gifford (Paris Junior College) produced the big blow in the first inning with a two-run single to center field. Taylor Head (Freed Hardeman) added a two-run bomb in the second inning. Gifford hit a solo homer in the fifth extending making it 7-0 lead.
Head finished 4-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored while Gifford was 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
The Sluggers crossed the pay station in the in the seventh on back-to-back bases loaded walks. The Clippers answered in the eighth with three insurance runs after a two-run single by Ben Meyers (Muskegon CC) and an RBI-single by Dalton Dick (Arkansas Pine Bluff).
Flag City rallied in the ninth when Draden Wardrop (Oakland Univeristy) scored on a base hit by Brandon North (Bluffton University). Miles Mitchell (New Orleans commit) crossed the plate when Aiden Booth (University of Findlay) grounded into a fielder's choice.
Muskegon relief pitcher Ty Randall (Grand Valley State) put an end to the threat striking out Jovanny Skrelja (Tiffin University) for the game's final out.
The series continues on Wednesday at Marsh Field with first pitch schedule for 6:35pm.

The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate, founded in 1987, is a wood-bat league that is certified by the NCAA and is partially funded by Major League Baseball. The GLSCL is a non-profit 501(c)(3) entity that is one of 12 members of the National Alliance of Collegiate Summer Baseball (NACSB). The league currently consists of 8 active franchises in Ohio and Michigan boasting several players that have earned service time in major league baseball.
